Snow fog [rowing]

I made myself get up this morning after getting both a flu and booster jab last night. (prior vaccination was with Pffft, boostah with Contemprary Pharma, heh). Temperatures have dropped this week, so it was 28 degrees F when I left the house, and the river had gotten down to 50 degrees F. Looking at our club's cold-weather policy, this put us just below the minimum acceptable temperature for being able to row.

I was figuring on a bit of an argument over that point upon arriving at the boathouse, but when I got down to the bike path on the river, there was also a bunch of fog that sealed the deal.

This was the last day of our fall season. This afternoon and tomorrow we'll pull the main docks out of the water, and then we'll have a break week before we start up our winter training. So our alternative to rowing was a set of 3, 20-minute steady-state pieces on the ergs.

In the middle of the second piece, with the ergs parked out with a view of the river, I started noticing small glints/flashes of light. They weren't quite the same as the stars one might see when hitting one's head...what were they? Eventually I realized they were fog droplets freezing in midair! Magically atmospheric.

And now I am tired and my body is not doing a great job of thermoregulating, so I've got my feet on a heating pad and 10 layers of clothes on while sitting in my office. It's going to be a long day.

I didn't know you could do that. I thought they had to be spaced apart; getting them both at the same time woulda made my life easier.

I think I learned this quite informally from a couple of friends who posted their double-jab selfies, and then I confirmed it before making an appointment at one of the obnoxious big chain pharmacy stores.

Ah well, right?
