It occurs to me that a couple of you might have excellent Expert Opinions on good field first aid kits. This trip made me realize that I should have one. (haven't needed to use one, but can see the benefits!) I should be getting up-to-date on basic first aid and CPR shortly, but I don't have more extensive training beyond that.

Suggestions?

Where is this kit for? Home, office, bike? Your office should have a defibrillator there already, probably.

Fieldwork - out collecting ants, crickets, etc. We have first aid kits already in our labs, thankfully. Now that you mention it, I'm not sure where the closest AED is located. I'll have to make note!

For that, you probably want the usual assortment of Band-Aids, gauze, Ace Bandages, aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol, Benadryl, alcohol wipes/Betadine, Pepto Bismol, tweezers, scissors, QuikClot, and triangle bandages. Almost no prefab first aid kits come with QuikClot but I have it in case of oh-shit emergency with a long transport time. (I generally add a tourniquet and QuikClot to my first aid kits, but make sure someone knows how to use those before using them. I am also probably more concerned with traumatic bleeding than most people are; I am around weapons a lot, so it's a more likely injury for martial artists than for normal people.)

Something like this is probably pretty close to what you want.

What do you know how to do? and What do you expect to need?

I find the "Mountain Guide" prepack kits the local outdoor store sells quite decent, but then again I'm not skilled and I expect nicks, ticks, and blisters with a possible side of edge tool errors.
