Lies and misfortune [teaching]
Feb. 22nd, 2021 02:39 pm2:52 pm, Monday, February 22. The online patient portal still reports "Sample ____ has not been received at our laboratory."
I called the pharmacy chain store where the test was administered and they did not have any other information to offer, either.
I checked three of the close-by locations listed on the state testing website as accepting walk-in appointments, but all three close-by locations use antigen tests, not PCR tests.
A friend anecdotally reported having a smooth experience at a different pharmacy chain that has a location that isn't too horribly far away. I went partway through the "make an appointment" process before concluding that it really couldn't give me any better certainty about the timing of test completion than what's already in the works. At that point, what's the point.
I called the state hotline for making appointments at state sites, and magically, quickly got through to talk to a real, live human. The real, live human said the closest places that would accept a person who is not in a car were places taking walk-ins only, in Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, and Spring Valley. I have no idea how far away those places are, but I don't think I've ever been to any of them before.
I filled out the state's online appointment form. The first time I answered the specific dropdown question about car ownership in the negative. That returned an automagic message that said, "Sorry, nope."
So now I have filled out the state's online appointment form after changing my answer about car ownership to "Yes." No automagic message for that submission yet.
From other places it seems the default is typically to offer next-day appointments, not same-day appointments. Most likely I'll be asking S to drive me in Princess TinyHouse. I can only hope that the state doesn't send its samples to Tennessee, too.
So now there's nothing else to do but fume and stew until 5 pm, which is when I told my students I would let them know about labs that are supposed to happen tomorrow.
I have a whole bunch of live animals scheduled to show up towards the end of the week.
So in case the governor happens to read my blog, no, not all New Yorkers have access to Covid tests in this state. I still find it unbelievable that it was suggested (by the real human being, even) that I get in a car arranged by a for-profit rideshare company with a stranger with an unknown Covid status. (and yes, I was as kind as I could be to the real human beings today, for it isn't their fault, of course)
