For those who like to know such things: I'm back in the States.
Just some brief notes--upon returning to the States, my awareness of certain aspects of Americanism is heightened. For instance, people in the U.S. are fat. It isn't just something that the media is telling us. Americans. are. fat.
Except for the underdressed Barbie-doll portion of the population, which is fine, except for the excessive display of flesh and any and all eating disorder issues.
Also--the U.S. is full of shiny, new buildings. It's unbelievable, how much of this country is polished to a fine shine, and flashy and bright. It's a bit disorienting--all the color makes it difficult to figure out what's beautiful and what's marketing and what's a substitute for real life.
Houses in Costa Rica and Panama are painted bright colors and are well-kept and properly sized. Actually, Panama is more similar to the U.S. than Costa Rica, so some houses are a bit more excessive there. But they still don't reach the extremes of the United States.
Anyhow, since most of the unpacking is done, it's time to dream tropical for a while.
