Amusingly enough, even though I will now be getting out on the water more frequently, my on-water photo-taking rates are going to go down dramatically because I don't bring cameras or smart-o-phones with me in racing shells. After all, you basically have to plan on everything getting wet at SOME point if you bring them along.

So, this morning, first morning back. We DID actually get out on the water, after running through our safety preamble.

I had forgotten how much futzing there is to getting out to go rowing, even when you don't have the added burden of COVID procedures. You have to get your oars out and put them down by the dock. Then you have to get the coaching launch all set up and bring that down. Then you need to set up a pair of boat slings for your boat, get your boat out, check everything over, manage your accessories (e.g. speedcoach), bring the boat down to the dock, stick the oars in, and FINALLY push off.

And then, on the return, you've got to bring up boat and oars and then at a minimum rinse everything off and wipe it down before putting it away. With COVID we also have an extra oar-cleaning step, plus a boat-disinfecting step.

So it's kind of a miracle if we get in any water time at all.

The good news is, I remember how to row.

Coach Y also immediately got on my case about fixing three major aspects of my rowing stroke, which he is totally right about (relax shoulders, quick catches, clean releases).

I think I am going to continue going out kayaking on the one morning a week that we don't have rowing practice, just for the quiet and peace of mind. And the chance to take more photos. I have started working on my map drawing of the river, which has made me realize that I need to go back out and take a half-dozen more reference photos.
