My laptop is home!!!!
Jun. 8th, 2020 03:38 pmTime to commence with stress-tests (i.e. using the computer to do things and see how it behaves now).
Here's what they said was the issue with the crapintosh.
Apparently for my model of laptop they used unleaded solder to attach chips and components to the board. So over time, as the logic board has flexed, the chip that powers the integrated graphics card became desoldered from the board.
They also very kindly cleaned my extremely grimy screen, attached the replacement feet I stuck in with the machine, and I am guessing they also deep-cleaned the logic board, which was rather dusty.
Here's a video of how the repair is handled (along with some commentary about how Apple managed the recall of the machines that happened in 2015):

This is a repair outfit that I can appreciate, is all I'm saying.
I cannot tell you how nice it is to be able to compute while NOT sitting in a chair. Sitting in a chair is often fine, but being able to sit in a wider range of postures is HUGE.
Phew.
