In the moments over the weekend where I wasn't busy yelling at the internet, I finished the finishing project.

Shiny

Yay!

It needs to stay on the porch for at least 24 hours more for residual VOC's to fume off. I will probably take another celebratory photo once it's in place in the back bedroom.

Also, as a result of this project, I was able to come up with better ideas for how to work on the chairs while down in the basement: use the sawhorses to elevate the chairs. That way, if/when the basement floods again, the chair won't get wet, just the metal legs of the sawhorses. Plus, it's so much more ergonomic this way. I still need to do a bit more work to tweak the lighting and ventilation down there, but this feels like progress.

For comparison, here are my current semi-wretched working conditions:

I am pretty sure the cat installation is not ergonomic. The sewing machine table is also slightly too high. But it will be a very nice bedside table next to the guest bed. This is the work keyboard and work mouse; I may wind up upgrading the home mouse sometime soon. We shall see. My repaired laptop is supposed to show up today, and we should be able to resume at least some work on campus soon, so I'm hoping to return the work computer to work soon. Don't get me wrong, it's very nice, but I miss my laptop.

Not all quaxing is about weight and bulk. When you want to bring along your fancy hat for a backyard socially-distanced picnic with friends, but you want to make sure it does not get crushed:

I got to harvest the first summer strawberries yesterday!

First strawberries of summer

Yes, two of those are cherry tomatoes. Although cherry tomatoes aren't my favorite, I am still very pleased by my decision to buy those overgrown-looking cherry tomato starts back in March. Homegrown fresh produce is the best.

The basil, kale, and mustard greens are about ready for a round of harvesting, too. Not bad for a wee, backyard plot.
