I feel so lucky.
I went to the grocery co-op this morning "with" R again (maintaining physical distance precautions). The grocery co-op sent all its members an update some time last week outlining new steps and precautions that it had put in place for its employees as well as for at-risk community members. It also reminded us that it is not subject to the same kinds of supply issues cropping up right now at other grocery stores because of its reliance on and relationship with local producers.
Ho-HO!
So this meant that I could get all the flour I wanted this morning, plus no problem with milk, eggs, or butter. They even had Nancy's yogurt completely back in stock. I feel like I won the lottery.
I don't expect that everything will remain exactly as it was before the pandemic, but I'm pretty sure we will have access to reasonably good food here just based on the nature of this region. That's one of the things that factored in to my decision to come here - smaller-scale cities are not going to suffer on that front in the same way that big cities are. I saw that very clearly in the East Bay. (at least in the East Bay you can basically just throw seeds in the ground and get SOMETHING for your trouble...and if you have a plant-oriented sister you can get great stuff).
And, back to work.
