Fungi unleashed
Oct. 18th, 2019 08:45 amWe had torrential rain from Wednesday night through a good part of the day yesterday, so the basement swimming pool got activated. Both the main sump pump and city-installed backup sump pump were running, so I'll be putting in a call to our landlord about that soon. It's not a backup if it's getting regular use, and this is the second time I've observed it working.
Based on my current runny nose and sinus headache, the moisture also facilitated a ton of fall fungal sporulation.
At least the views along my bike commute route have been full of colorful fall glory.

Climate change means more intense storms dropping more water over short time periods, and this historic house has a "dry" basement (ha!), so we expected the swimming pool effect. It just got worryingly close to reaching the edges of the platforms on which the water heater and boiler are mounted, and having the backup sump pump running is also cause for concern.
