Saggy metal [kayaking]

Last night,
scrottie assembled all the kayak trailer pieces to do a test ride. Instantaneous conclusion: the 3/4-inch square tubular steel and current build aren't going to work. There's going to be too much torque on the tongue, and it's too prone to wiggle. Not strong enough. S is ready to scrap the whole thing. I'll admit I'm kind of stumped about what to try next, too. We might have to hand-portage down to the river. Only 2.5 miles to the closest put-in point.
I'll try and remember to take photos soon.
