Ballet and Banished Crumbs
May. 28th, 2016 06:36 pmI rocketed out of work on time yesterday, and rode home in order to change before heading to the Mission District for a ballet performance at Z Space. The last pants that I thought were still intact wore out in the usual spot where my pants wear out when I ride around on my bike while wearing pants.
scrottie had encountered a flyer for a performance at Z Space, and it looked worthy of further investigation. The tickets were surprisingly cheap. After the show, we realized why: the show consisted of performances by ballet dancers participating in a two-year preprofessional program. They were good, and the venue was also nice, if slightly silly: an old warehouse made fancy by hanging up stained glass windows all over the place. Afterwards, we made our way back up the street to Gestalt for some veggie bratwurst and beer because we were keenly interested in determining whether they still had on tap that salty grapefruit beer whose name we can't remember but really wish we did.
They didn't, but they did still have that tasty Belgian sour that S got last time, the Vanderghinste Oud Bruin. I get overwhelmed when there are too many options, so I panicked and wound up getting the Allagash Curieux, which was a bit too sweet and smooth for my taste, but which S wound up enjoying while I drank most of his Vanderghinste. Mm. A good sour beer can be a marvelous thing.
Then we strolled up and down a block along Valencia to experience some of the nighttime sights and sounds, and then shoved ourselves back onto the BART for the trip back over the bay. Altogether I am glad I don't live in San Francisco. It is too crowded and dirty and closed-off. However, it's nice to live close enough to periodically take advantage of the cultural offerings.

Originally we were going to go on a long bicycling expedition today, but then S got the word that he would need to add some finishing touches to a work project that's due Monday (WTF programming companies, that's a holiday). So instead I got to spend some time catching up on a couple of projects around the house. Mostly, there were a lot of crumbs on the floor, and crumbs drive me nuts. I also pruned one of the shrubs along the path on the side of the house to try and direct its growth upwards and arching over instead of out all bushy-like to the side. I'm pretty sure this shrub dates back to some previous owners, who probably put it in to help ensure privacy along that side of the house. I saw a lot of signs of previous bad pruning jobs.
Then I sewed buttons back onto two garments that had lost their buttons and then picked up some groceries while heading in to work for the evening.
It felt good to finally have a window of time to work on catching up on stuff at home.

Date: 2016-05-30 06:01 pm (UTC)I took a photo of the beer list at Gestalt, and it looks like they had a Fieldwork "Storm Surge Double IPA" on tap instead. It appears that Fieldwork has a brewpub in the district not too far from the boathouse. Further investigation will commence shortly.
