Yesterday was an odd one. I had a hard time getting started with the day, probably due to sheer exhaustion, but also because of a bicycling project that started to eat up a good portion of the day. It's out of my hands by now, fortunately. Once I finally made it in to campus, my intrepid undergraduate R (the only one left!) and I were able to work on some simple data analysis for our Queen Fertility project. I'm thinking about egg-laying rates a lot these days, between this project and the chickens. Then my attention wandered again, for a while. Eventually, shortly before it was time for me to wrap up and leave, I buckled down and got to work for a good hour and a half. Classic.

I then had a surprisingly good night at ceramics, managing to throw a decent piece with the remnants of my porcelain clay, plus two large plant pots with Rod's Bod, a clay that contains more grog and thus has more structure. The contrast between the porcelain and Rod's Bod was striking; porcelain is incredibly unforgiving. All of that practice with porcelain has not been for naught, it seems; I have been learning to throw better.

But then, after all that, I couldn't get myself out of bed this morning to go rowing. Rowing has such a civilizing effect on my day that I'm sorry whenever I miss out on it. I'm hoping next week will be better, for I'll spend the weekend doing mostly low-key activities. I like being in the state where I get myself out rowing consistently, rather than this intermittent business that's been happening over the past month or so.

It's April already, and I have so much science to do before summer hits. I hope I can stay on track with that as well.
