Well, I think *that* went okay.

My recent spate of public speaking engagements has finally drawn to a close with a lecture delivered this morning to my introductory biology students. All things considered, lecturing was actually pretty fun. If I kept at it for an entire semester, I can see how it might start to be a drag, but the students were all such a good captive audience and it was a fun subject to present (ecosystems ecology).
Yesterday I gave a presentation to my research cluster--the other people at ASU who study insects, behavior, and the like. Due to a combination of factors (certain elections the night before, a rescheduling of the presentation to 9 am, certain famous biologists visiting ASU, and a fire drill), attendance was sparse. However, those who did attend said they found the presentation insightful and almost all asked questions. So I consider it a success.
It's reassuring to know that in the very least I'm conveying some ideas to other people and that they find them compelling or interesting.
That said, I'm pretty happy to finally have a chance to settle down and NOT spend a day working on PowerPoint slides.
