The things I want to do, versus the things I need to do [status]

Yesterday I administered a lab practical. I'm not sure whether administering a lab practical is worse than proctoring an exam, but it's up there on the list in terms of things I don't enjoy doing. This is because it leads to a lot of time fragmentation, where I'll have awkward minutes of not doing too much, randomly punctuated by attending to things that need attention (e.g. student questions).

Still, the practical is a sign that the end is near. The end of the semester, that is. So I can devote slightly more time to thinking about things I want to do, rather than mostly just focusing on the things I need to do.

I'm still perfectly capable of sending myself in circles about the things I want to do, of course. One example is that I got partway through mending a wool shirt while in the midst of my sabbatical, but I never did finish mending all the holes in that shirt.

And of course, even out of the things I want to do, some are more time-sensitive than others. Transplanting things into the garden, for example. Unlikely to go so well if I put that off until November.

Still. Mostly I'm just hoping that I can get myself through the next week and a half, and then have some ideas and plans for how to manage the balancing act over the summer.

For today, though, I'd better get prepared for the two classes I teach on Wednesdays.
