I am tempted to make the start of this post melodramatic, but the bottom line is that overall the first day of driving went fine. We are at one of my aunts’ house and the cats instantly love it here because of how quiet it is (also tons of bird feeders outside every single window).

One advantage of the trailer over cartopping is I can constantly monitor the boat, so during the 15-min safety check I already knew the front strap was working loose but not an emergency (yet). I have also determined that I am going to have a personal boat transport rule that I must always have at least 2 spare straps along with me no matter what.

I tried to put the replacement bearing grease cap to replace the one that got crushed in transit, but it did not want to fit. The problem is the crushed one leaves the bearing grease exposed. I eventually figured out a way to seal it off for now with electrical tape.

When I get to California I need to take the trailer apart so I can actually install the spare tire carrier. Having the spare tire in the car is taking up as much extra capacity as all the boatbuilding tools and solvents and varnishes.

Tomorrow will be a longer driving day, solo. But not as long as it would have been to try and do this all in one shot.
