Status [status, rowing, work]
Apr. 7th, 2024 08:10 amI'm back in that state where I don't know whether this is a sinus headache from allergies or early stages of getting sick.
Spent Friday largely overcaffeinated, not getting as much grading done as I would have liked. Finally stopped grading at 10 pm, then got up an hour before rowing practice to get at least a little more done. Glad I did, because I didn't manage to get any other grading done on Saturday, sigh.
That was because I went straight from rowing practice + coffee after, to working on getting our club's docks put in.
Photos and two short fun videos of the process are on Flickr (click photo to see):

After dealing with the docks, we went to a brewpub. A couple of the people who joined us there are folks I don't get to catch up with often enough, so I stayed longer than I should have. An intense Saturday morning practice + being on my feet all day for the docks meant my goose was cooked and I didn't get any additional reports graded yesterday.
12 more to go at this point. I think I need to expand my collection of energetic techno for grading. I keep listening to Order Odonata on repeat on internet video. I have to keep the cats locked out of my office when I'm grading or they cause way too much interference.
And this is already too long of a break, better get back to work.
Teammates are in full support of me buying a bunch of new line (rope) for the club. This year we used some of the anchor line we had bought last year for actual safety launch anchors, and it was fantastic to work with. Some of the other older rope we used broke under the strain we put it under. We have had a tricky time getting some of the dock hinges to align and really need to switch over to using a come-along, but that would involve having the forethought to ask someone to bring a come-along.
On the other hand, we managed to get most things aligned more quickly this year as compared to last year, at least. Bit by bit we are getting the dock into better shape over the years.
