Treadmills [status, work]
Mar. 28th, 2024 02:14 pmIt's hard to escape the feeling of being on a treadmill, in the middle of the semester. It's Thursday of our spring break, and so far I have used most of this break just to try and catch up on various cleanup tasks, grade stuff, and maybe get a small head start on things for next week.
Some of the Animal Phys labs generate a lot of dishes. Washing them isn't especially complicated, but it takes time, space, and deciding how they need to be washed (sterilized? rinsed? get soap involved? DI water?).

Next week is the crayfish salinity lab, so I also had to get everything set up for the freshly arrived crayfish yesterday, which took around 3-4 hours. Lots of weighing of salt and dispensing of large volumes of water. Thank goodness for the Aquarium Room. I haven't yet dealt with the three aquarium pumps I uncovered during setup that don't work. The broken equipment pile can be overwhelming sometimes.

Each sweater box contains ~6-7 crayfish:

In general the murder rates have been fairly low with this setup, and the same is true of the escape rates.
I have also managed to get the new wheel, tube, and tire onto Old Faithful, making it rideable again.
And I also managed to re-weigh some samples from an experiment from 1.5 years ago that had been incorrectly weighed by students. That's just about the only activity this break that I can point to as substantive forward progress on a thing.
