Designs and fonts [rowing]
Apr. 16th, 2023 03:18 pmToday I realized that I most likely won't be the Regatta Director for the Head of the Hudson in 2024, because I have plans for that fall, to be away on sabbatical out on the West Coast. (Note, these are currently very vague plans, but plans nonetheless; also we only get a half-year sabbatical.).
But I'm definitely still the ringleader this year.
But thankfully, there are more rowing club members who are stepping up in all kinds of ways to help out.
But there are still certain organizational tasks that are on my plate.
For example, ordering medals for the winners.
The last time I went to order medals, I learned a lot. For one thing, bulk discounts are helpful. For another, plan ahead. For a third, the company that makes them might not be able to look up prior orders because reasons, so it might be necessary to scrounge up or produce the needed artwork for them.
So then, if I'm already working on and thinking about artwork, I might as well finish making "Save the Date" cards for the regatta that we can hand out to coaches at other regattas.
But also, we have a couple other events coming up sooner (National Learn to Row Day in June), so it might be time to work on that flyer, too.
...In any case, let it be known that I have full respect for graphic designers, of which I am not one.
Rowing flyers are much more fussy than Bike Saviours and TBAG flyers.
I don't know the default fonts in Inkscape super well yet, and it feels like it takes FOREVER to suss out appropriate ones.
And I still haven't done my taxes yet, or continued working on the massive stack of grading.
It's going to be another long week.
