Following up on yesterday's post, I wound up having 5 students show up for the in-person version of the exam. Five that I've enjoyed having in class, no less. They appreciated the on-paper experience and the quiet classroom. Covid cases in the county are continuing to rise, as are hospitalizations. It still ain't over, and it will be interesting to see how long it takes people in general to realize that this is going to keep on happening unless we can all actually manage to make more of the necessary fundamental changes. Personally, I like being outside, even in winter, and I like breathing fresh air. I also don't actually like people all that much - at least, not in large numbers.

I've been going to get coffee with teammates after rowing practices, but I think it's probably time to wear a mask inside the coffeeshop and ask if we can enjoy our coffee outside. My risk calculus on this has been totally irrational and that bugs me, to say nothing of the actual fact that every time I go I'm playing the 'Rona Roulette. Some risks in life are worth it - others are worth mitigating.

Today is all about grading and giving students feedback on their research capstone papers. I'm going to miss this group of research students when they graduate. They've been fun, and real.

The next group will be, too.
