Got some good use out of my chisel and block plane today, while cutting the top insert piece for the sewing machine cabinet. Also the coping saw [insert jokes about coping mechanisms here].
Trying to chisel and plane down plywood is...not my favorite activity. Especially with a dulled chisel, and my lack of experience with it and the block plane.
But they got the job done, so now the insert piece is stained and drying. I'll probably put 1-3 coats of Polycrylic on it after that. I think I'm going to pick up some small metal brackets to hold it in place, and then I can switch back over to sewing projects rather than projects to facilitate sewing projects.
The coping saw worked reasonably well for sawing out the end of the inner rectangle, although if you look closely you'll notice I did wander slightly from my line:

Messy bench:

A snug fit!

Almost ready to sew again:

An excellent project for avoiding the grading I need to get done.
Up next, some cake-baking.
