Okay, two things that Fruit Company did well:

-Magsafe power adapter. although I preferred the version that sent the power cord parallel to the machine instead of perpendicular.
-Silence. This machine has something running intermittently, at variable speeds, and it is distractingly loud. I don't know what I'm going to do about it, but I am going to have to do SOMETHING. Could that be a fan manufacturing defect, if it's this loud out of the box?

Installed Chromium, R/RStudio, and Zotero. Somehow, syncing Zotero made me feel like I got an important part of my brain back.

I'm not sure about spreadsheet software yet. I did install Wine, for starters (and gave them a donation; not sure I want to go the CrossOver route). I'll give LibreOffice a whirl for a little while, here.

I also need to figure out what I'm going to do about Keynote stuff. I have a lot of lectures saved as Keynote files. If nothing else I can Chromium Remote Desktop in to the work computer, though that's a bit sluggish, as one might expect.

And Acrobat. I had full Acrobat as part of CS5 on the dead laptop. It was useful.

I could probably use a video editor. I bought copies of Movavi for both the laptop and work computer during the pandemic. It isn't as though I love Movavi, but I did get used to the way it's configured.

I'm also probably forgetting at least 10 other things.

It will be nice when I can get my music onto this machine.
