Conference implosion, for me, at least
Jan. 6th, 2022 10:09 amAs best I can tell, this morning neither the printed program nor the online schedule was accurate for the set of talks I wanted to see. Plus, the app kept misfiring, so it took me about 30 minutes to even access the inaccurate online information. To top things off, two of the three talks I did manage to attend were just recordings anyway.
Now, granted, a live Zoom talk is not quite the same as someone being present in the room, but the recordings were just downright unpleasant, even if they did contain insightful ideas. Many of us have spent 1.5 years talking to the brick walls of our computers, but that has not magically made us any better at communicating via recorded presentations. A lesson I will definitely take back to my own teaching.
