False Spring and the Slop
Feb. 6th, 2020 11:12 amYesterday, another DWer wrote something about "False Spring," and I just want to say that I appreciate the concept. I found myself thinking about it this morning when I woke up and noticed more white stuff on the ground. False spring, indeed. It's still winter.
Today is one of those borderline snow days - temperatures are at that borderline between freeze and thaw, so there's a bunch of slop on the roads. Precipitation amounts aren't too outrageous, thankfully, but Frodo had a generous coating of stuff on the undercarriage by the time I got to campus. I'm hoping things stay closer to "thaw" than "freeze," but the weather will do what it will do.
I was still glad I was able to ride my bike in to work. I hate having to wade through this stuff on sidewalks and streets while on foot. The roads at least get cleared, mostly, in a more timely fashion.
Interestingly, in the winter I'm often happier on streets that don't have bike lanes, because then I'm not expected to be riding my bike in a marginal space that isn't systematically cleared of snow.
