Catch-up 1: Ransacking
Dec. 27th, 2016 11:09 amThe morning of Friday, December 23,
scrottie got a message from his storage unit. Someone had broken in and ransacked it. You can imagine how this affected our remaining time in Seattle. We were relieved when the extremely-late train at least made it back to Emeryville before the close of the work day. He had just enough time to get the police report filed yesterday.
From the looks of what was taken, it was the work of some sort of tweaker (for my Mom: that's someone addicted to methamphetamine).
As you might imagine, it's also emotionally difficult to cope with someone having rifled through your belongings and taken many items that are hard-to-get for various reasons and that have sentimental value much greater than their monetary value. Especially for someone whose life circumstances include a generally high level of instability.
While there are a number of nice things about our current living situation, I think we would both greatly prefer living circumstances that don't require keeping >50% of our belongings in storage units. It's hard to say when we'll have that luxury again.
