I know I keep blogging about this, but I sort of feel like it's a subject matter that isn't going to go away.

First I should note that I've been doing some reading and thinking about hygiene. I think long-distance women cyclists could benefit from some ideas used by backpackers - carrying along a "pee rag," for instance, which would then sit out in the sun to sterilize between uses. But where would be the best place to stash one's pee rag?

Second, after reading this interview about a woman cyclist who raced with the men, I have to wonder - what did Carmen Small do whenever she needed to pee?? What about other pro women racers?*

Also, apparently it isn't always easy for the men, either, and etiquette matters.

*This interview has a lot of interesting stuff in it about women's cycling, too

For the sake of accountability:

I managed to get up this morning and went for a walk before doing some core and shoulder strengthening exercises. While it wasn't easy to drag myself out of bed, I felt SO MUCH BETTER after just this wee smidgeon of exercise!

I also have a plan for an erg workout for tomorrow morning - one of the strength workouts from one of the marathon training programs. It's a cool workout that involves the use of a heart-rate monitor: set the resistance damper two levels higher than your usual drag factor, then do a set of ten power 10's at full/max pressure. In between each power 10, take paddle strokes until your heart rate is below 75% of your maximum heart rate, then start the next power 10. There's nothing like one of these power 10's to force yourself to focus on the present moment.

I think I'm in reasonable shape in terms of overall endurance, but my rowing strength has deteriorated among all this bike-cycling activity. After this workout, I think I'll be in a better position to sit down and plot out how to get from this phase to the start of the Holiday Challenge (Thanksgiving).
