Mechanicians' machinations
May. 9th, 2014 02:04 pmThe week after a big brevet can be rough. There was no time to go grocery shopping last weekend, nor time to update the checkbook (badly overdue!), nor time to think ahead about plans for the upcoming week. I made it out for 20 miles of the 34-mile Wednesday Night Ride, before deciding to call it and head home instead.
My right big toe has experienced some strain, and I'm still recovering from handlebar palsy in my right hand, meaning I really shouldn't be bicycling at all this week, and typing feels weird and not entirely comfortable. But it's still important to make it in to work, and so I climb on the Jolly Roger and pedal, pitifully.
The work agenda is stressful, too. The boss-man wants me to finish and submit a manuscript before I depart for Nebraska (he's right, I should). There's a fellowship application due May 18 and I have barely looked over the writing prompts. I have a leafcutter paper in progress, and a third manuscript to work on, too.
I tried to push through last night, and failed. S asked for help putting the engine head back on Princess Tinycar, and so I helped, holding the block of metal while he reattached the connecting rods and popped the pins in. I haven't been rock climbing, rowing, or piano-playing lately, so my forearms aren't especially strong. Once that project was done, I just couldn't physically click and type anymore.
I hope things will get better soon. I'd like to be able to make some plans for July, when I'll be moving out of my current house and moving in to ___???!!!
