Watercolor Urge / Miscellanea
Jul. 13th, 2012 09:53 amFor the first time in months, I don't have to go in to the lab at all on Saturday! Woo!
I was hoping to go on an overnight brevet on Saturday instead, but things just aren't going to work out this time around. Once again, no 300k on the Jolly Roger for me. Some day I'll do it. Some day. Instead, I'll just work on projects at home, will get myself out to the lake, and will spend some time working on rowing-related tasks, like coming up with the erg training schedule for the fall and lining up contact info for nearby rowing programs.
I'm also going to try and bust out the watercolors. I need some kind of art outlet. Badly.
I've finished my mid-month financial update. Farewell, o hard-earned money, you're mostly going to lovely places, like the new bicycle, and to the usual places, like utilities. I know I'm in much better shape financially than I was last fall (ugh, that was an ugly time), but I hope that at some point I stop feeling like I'm hemorrhaging money every month. Student loans are still a culprit, but I know it's best to attend to them for the sake of the long term. It would be interesting to know whether the changes in the financial climate have ultimately affected the mobility of young people - as the cost of higher education has risen, one would expect that it would cause more students to choose in-state universities, which might then cause them to focus on in-state job opportunities.
I should also get a few things lined up for August, like figuring out where I'm going to stay in Portland during the Ecological Society meeting. And how I'm going to get back to Texas from Seattle at the end of my travels. Hmm.
