Glad Yule

Given that there is no snow here, I am determined to do a lot of walking around instead. I don't walk much in Texas, but the backpacking trip over Thanksgiving gave me the urge to do more walking and hiking around. It's nice to switch up the ways that one moves one's body.

This cabin is roughly two miles away from Tahoe City. On the second day here, a group of us took a meandering route in to Tahoe City so we could both enjoy a nice hike and visit the post office and see if my package had arrived (I mailed all of my gifts to myself via general delivery so I didn't have to schlepp them on my journey). There's a labyrinth of cross-country ski routes (slash mountain biking routes) within a quarter-mile walk, and some of the trails parallel the route into town. I'd estimate our hike was only around 6 miles in total.

Yesterday, I enjoyed a second walk into town with my father and mother. We just took the direct route, on a bike path that parallels the road, with the attendant annoyance of tons of traffic noise. Still, it was good to get out, move around, and catch up a bit with my mom and dad.

I don't know what we'll do for today's walk, but yesterday's walk was also partly a reconnaissance mission for tomorrow's walk. J informed my father about a coffeeshop in Tahoe City, but we were all pretty coffee-d out yesterday, so we didn't see a reason to go for more coffee. Instead, tomorrow morning, my father and I will walk over to the coffeeshop early in the morning for our first breakfast. As a collective, the group at the cabin has been getting a late start on breakfast, so us early risers are pretty hungry by the time breakfast finally gets on the table at 10 am. I also suspect we won't get in a coffeeshop bike ride over the three days while I'm in Seattle, so this is what we will do instead.
