While riding back from the lab, I noticed that a house had put some stuff out along the curb, as people are wont to do in these parts. This particular house seems to be doing a constant, low level of remodeling, as they often set out stuff. Apparently today someone decided that the bathroom fixtures were all hideous and it was time for a replacement (okay, they were correct about that). So, I've now got a new towel rod (my bathroom's towel rod is pathetic) and a little glass shelf to install. I'm wondering if it's possible to paint the fake brass. The whole bathroom in this place could use some TLC, so maybe for the time being I should just install the shelf and towel rod, and go back and paint if I end up deciding to do so.

That wasn't all of it. I made pizzelles last night, and only belatedly realized that I completely lack the requisite tins for storing such things. Tins! There's really no substitute for a good storage tin, and I want to mail some of these cookies, so something had to be done. Brand-new tins are a complete ripoff, too, as far as I'm concerned. A lot of the small/local shops in Bryan are closed on Sundays, but as I have just learned, Goodwill is not. Awesome. Bryan has a relatively small Goodwill, but the space is well-used. Today an employee was busy stocking the shelves with miscellaneous Christmas schwag, and they had an abundance of tins of the right size. Yes. The day was saved. Clearly, I got there before the rest of the desperate and thrifty housewives. I also picked up a pretty glass jar and a big rubbermaid bin for my sugar.

Oh, I noted a few other items of interest/amusement as I browsed - a cast-iron Dutch oven that was unfortunately overpriced ($25?!) and that lacked a lid. It also looked like the previous user had scoured it out a bit too well over time. Other than that, if you're in the market for a cheap gun rack, I spotted a nice wood one for you there. I also unearthed a set of cookie cutters that included that leg-lamp from A Christmas Story. Hey, if you're going to make sugar cookies, clearly that's the first shape that comes to mind. Nothing like a cookie tin full of leg-lamp cookies. Holiday cheer and all that. Last, but not least, I found a mug with an eagle on it that said "Success / Refuse to fail." Yes, I almost bought it for you as your Christmas gift.

I should work on the doors today, but it's rainy out and I'm inclined to stay inside (Emma is encouraging this as well). There are plenty of other indoor projects deserving attention.
