Things are beginning to fall into place for my defense, or so it feels. In some respects. Tomorrow will be the two-week-until point. I am blogging this to get it straight in my mind.

My "full" dissertation is due to the formatters by tomorrow, for inspection and approval. I'm still only halfway through my draft for Chapter 2 - this chapter has been tricky because it's purported to be about mass and element balancing, except the elements don't balance. I want it in my dissertation anyway, because there's a LOT of data associated with it, and I think it helps to tell a more complete story. I'm working on it frantically to get the rest of a passable draft together. Regardless, I'll be sending a "dummy" draft to the formatters. My advisor does not seem overly concerned about this.

I sent Chapter 3 to my committee last Friday, and re-sent Chapter 1 as well (original was sent in March, but only 1 out of 4 committee members read it and responded). I don't know how concerned I should be about the fact that my other committee members haven't read or responded about my chapters yet. I worry that their combination of blind trust and procrastination will backfire on me, although these chapters are exactly about the things I proposed to study and they gave me plenty of feedback on my proposal. I will be discussing this with my advisor later today. I have heard from other recent graduating students that their committee members have behaved similarly.

My advisor and one other committee member are going out of town the week of my defense, returning the morning of my defense. Next week I will definitely be hounding my committee for feedback and working on my presentation.

The official announcement about my defense also goes public tomorrow. It's getting more real.
