Boy Howdy

In case things weren't busy enough, over the weekend, our refrigerator died. I found myself suddenly making a few extra trips in to campus, first to deposit frozen foods into a freezer, then to collect up a few coolers and freezer packs to store the refrigerables.

Other than that, it was kind of a surreal weekend. S and I went over to Yucca Tap Room Friday night to listen to some bands, but I was so tired that I started nodding off while we were sitting at the bar. Saturday, we ventured out to the farmer's market, and then got some coffee and treats at a downtown Phoenix coffeeshop.

Then we spent a tantalizingly short period of time trying to work on miscellaneous projects - I mostly worked on trying to shape up some parts of Diss Chap 1, but progress feels horrifyingly slow.

Then we went over to Roosevelt Row, for the Phoenix Annual Parade of the Arts. I've wanted to go for the past three years or so, so it was nice to finally get to witness the chaos in person. It just makes me wish there were more awesome parades here.

S rode a tallbike, and we saw all sorts of other crazy contraptions, including a "bike" towing a firepit. Wild.

After the parade, we started to head back towards Tempe. En route, someone whizzed past us on a bike and said, "Hi, guys!" Then two other bicyclists zipped by, and I remembered that there was something of an alleycat planned for that evening. The race was on, even though I was hauling a trailer full of groceries and S was on a tallbike. At one point, the ghost rings popped out of the tallbike, so we had to pause for some repairs, but then we kept going. It turned out that only five people completed the race (if you include us). It was just hilarious overall.

Sunday, I discovered that the freezer had stopped working. So we hauled the contents of the freezer in to the lab, and stuck everything into an empty lab freezer. Then we spent a few hours at work, came home, and discovered that the fridge had stopped working as well. Boy, cleaning out the fridge was a project. Hopefully the whole situation will get resolved today. Just what I needed, eh?

In other news, I'm feeling both sad and relieved that a lot of my bicycling-related projects are wrapping up. I really hope that the yard sign project ("Don't be a Bike Ninja/Don't be a Bike Salmon") launches successfully. After that, I'll mostly just be dissertating my brains out. The obsessing has already begun; I keep waking up thinking about it.
