Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] scrottie finished up the task of reconfiguring a wireless router into a repeater bridge in RH's antechamber, which means we now have teh internets all over our house instead of just in RH's room and antechamber. Whee! In some ways, I can't believe it took me so long to get around to this particular project. Ah well. This all makes it much more likely that I'll get around to doing things like posting up another round of delicious recipes.

You see, last night, it was my turn to cook for the Scrabble Society, and I couldn't help myself. I went a little crazy with the cooking. Not that anybody was complaining, mind you. The funny thing about what I cooked up was the combination of ingredients - broiled polenta triangles with butternut squash and kale, and a fig-balsamic reduction.

It conveniently used a couple of ingredients that I'd been puzzling over, all atop one of the foods I feel like I can't escape (polenta). You see, I feed polenta to the leafcutter ants, but I rarely eat it myself. It was kind of strange to be eating ant food. Meanwhile, we've been getting inundated with butternut squashes from our CSA, so I'd been looking for nice recipes that combine the squash deliciousness with other flavors (note to self: make that blue cheese and squash tart recipe from [livejournal.com profile] gfrancie one of these days). I'd had a handful of dried figs languishing in the cabinet for ages, that really needed to be put to use in a saucy fashion to rehydrate them sufficiently (answer: simmer in balsamic vinegar for an hour, then blenderize to make an incredibly rich reduction). And heck, I can always use more kale in my diet.

So, yeah. The bounty was enjoyed immensely, and then we had some banana cake with caramel sauce for dessert. Once again, the Scrabble Society was well-fed.
