Addictions

I have had a link to this article on quitting Facebook open in a tab for the last day or so, but haven't been able to decide quite what to do with it. So here it is for you. I might also post it to my Facebook profile eventually, for fun. It just makes me want to go, "Facebook, I wish I knew how to quit you!"

Somewhat more seriously--in my experience so far, Facebook has had its benefits and drawbacks. Hearing from my extended family and from friends in distant places more frequently, without having to seek them out and send individual e-mails, has been really nice. The death of Scrabulous (note link at the bottom of the article to Lexulous!) was quite sad--it provided such a nice meeting place for A, C and myself. Facebook's photo policy is also irksome, so I try to avoid posting photos there and instead post them here. My photographs cannot mean the same thing to Facebook as they mean to me, so I'd prefer to retain ownership over most of those bits and bytes.

Today's New York Times contained an article (that I did not read) about how the anonymous Internet is not so anonymous anymore. Shocking and utterly unexpected. [That was sarcasm, in case you missed it.] Really, I see it all as a humongous social experiment, millions upon millions of people spread all over the glob, all trying to figure out how to connect and interact with each other in a meaningful way. For my own sake, I declare that the same rules apply here as apply anywhere else for interactions with other people (for the most important aspect of life that I've found so far is the quality of relationship), and I stand by my conduct.
