Question of the Day
Oct. 7th, 2008 07:36 amHow does the hypothetico-deductive method of reasoning make you feel?
Note that I have linked to the scientific method Wikipedia page and not the hypothetico-deductive method page, because the latter is kind of crappy.

My tissue-culture alcove
Oct. 7th, 2008 01:16 pmI am thinking a lot about my friend
trifold_flame today, apparently.

That's mostly because I'm constantly amazed at the incredible things she's capable of accomplishing while appearing relatively nonplussed. But it's also because she has described a number of quirky habits and behaviors that she has adopted to get through graduate school, and although they are perhaps a bit eccentric, I can see more of the logic in them every single day.
For example, her habit of consuming what she calls "E____ chow." When you have no time to cook or eat, make something that's relatively inexpensive, nutritionally balanced, and that's simple to make and eat for any meal (and that tastes good to you all the time). I need to come up with my own recipe for Rebecca Chow.
Then there's her secret hideaway in her lab space, which is in her tissue-culture alcove (hence the title of this post). I finally figured out that often our lab's fume-hood alcove can serve a similar purpose.
The only trouble is, it obviously hasn't done much for my procrastinatory abilities.
...And with that, back to writing out my hypotheses and predictions.

Well, then.
Oct. 7th, 2008 08:56 pmI've been at school for 14 hours today, and did a major overhaul of my proposal's experimental design section. I think it's better now, but probably not yet fantastic.
But that's okay. As I approached the end, I got that feeling of the whole document tightening up. I can't exactly tell you what causes the feeling, but it's an important one because I'd been feeling like the experimental design section was all over the place and loosey-goosey.
You try writing a proposal, and you'll see what I mean.
Now I need to eat some food.
