Originally, I chose the front bedroom in our house because it is further away from the train and I was worried about the train keeping me up at night (I'm quite a light sleeper).

As it turned out, the train was not really a concern. We actually like it.

Instead, it's the games at the high school a block away that create the most irritating sounds--drumming, announcing, pepping of the pep band. It's one thing to go to a game voluntarily, and a completely different thing to be involuntarily gamed.

Also, for the record, I must note that every single time I make a stir-fry I think of [livejournal.com profile] gfrancie and her opinion of bad hippie stir-fry. Trouble is, I'm not entirely clear what makes stir-fry good or bad. Methinks frozen vegetables are right out (and rightly so), and that the real disgrace is those who cook without knowing when to add different vegetables to produce a well-cooked stir-fry that isn't at all overdone. There's also some knack to selecting and preparing vegetables that complement each other well. Surprisingly, the stir fry I made this evening turned out reasonably well, given the vegetable constraints (onion, eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, reddish bell pepper, mustard greens, crispy tofu) and their ages. Appropriate sauces always help.

Anyway. Time for sleepy. It has been a long day, consisting of weighing out tiny quantities of ant garbage and powdered leaves. Hard to believe, but it's true. Tomorrow I'll add some chemicals that turn things fuchsia and later blue, and will hopefully find out how much phosphorus is present.
