Tidbits from the Life and Times
Aug. 13th, 2008 01:42 pmMan, bicycle advocacy requires a lot of unforseen kinds of work (I'm referring to the process of untangling TBAG's finances/tax requirements, my glorious duty as Treasurer). It's a bit odd to think of this as a volunteer/outreach commitment, but I distinctly remember thinking at some point that if I were ever to get politically involved, it would have something to do with the subject of bike advocacy. Backup Career number 36.
In other news, my cooking bender has continued. Monday night, I made chiles rellenos (note correct spelling of delicious cheese-filled chiles!). They were tasty when served alongside the pinto puree. Then, last night I made pad Thai and Tom Yum soup, using the recipes and ingredients that my brother and J sent to me. The rice noodles were nice and wide and delicious, and now I'm dying to know where I can get ahold of some of the more difficult-to-find ingredients (difficult if one lives far from Warner and Dobson, that is).
In other other news, there aren't enough hours in the day to get things done. I got partway through some serious dissertation thinking yesterday, but not nearly far enough, plus I really need to finish up another project whose end is tantalizingly in sight. Neither of these jobs is at a point where I can describe them in simple terms to a nonacademic audiences, but eventually they'll get there (unless "measuring fungus areas" and "figuring out how nutrient supplementation will affect a linear trophic cascade composed of secondary and tertiary consumers" makes sense to you). After all, you, o taxpayers, fund my lifestyle.
