Big town/small town
May. 8th, 2008 11:11 amContinuing on the theme of discussing my new neighborhood, one of the interesting things I discovered in the process of moving was just how many random acquaintances knew a thing or two about my move. That kind of highlighted an odd effect of where I live--while on the one hand I live in the midst of a giant metropolitan area, on the other hand, there are parts of Tempe that seem to function like a small town. Admittedly, a lot of the "small town" feel comes from being in graduate school, but it also spills over into people in my 'hood. My friend K says she thinks a lot of it comes from the fact that there's only so many like-minded people here, so we all eventually end up finding each other.
I'm not sure how I feel about it all. I kind of like the anonymity of big cities. But so it goes.
