So there's an MFA student at ASU who has this project called Emergy, where she has basically created a rowing machine hooked up to a generator. There's way more information on her blog, but as the title says, the more I think about the whole idea, the more excited I get.
I'm going to try and sign up to be one of the rowers while the show's on display at ASU, March 24-28 (why not get exercise and make it useful and social commentary?). It might be weird to be on display, but whatever. I actually hope that Concept2 gets wind of this idea and thinks about using it in some of their future designs. Perhaps if I talk to the artist I can figure out how to get one of my own. It would be a much more meaningful way of measuring work on an ergometer if it could be put to use instead of requiring 2 AA batteries.
