If you start your party early and it's a backyard party and it's cold outside, it will end blessedly early, which is good if you also have to get up early the next morning to go rowing some more.
Happy birthday to my brother! Now he's two years older than me again. I should send him a gift, in a belated fashion.
Seeing my friends all together in one place makes me hyper-aware of how chimerical my life is (it has been patchworked for a long time, though, and most people's lives are, aren't they?). On the other hand, I have a feeling that having my friends all together in one place will make them start asking interesting questions of each other and myself, and will encourage them in their re-thinking their connections in this place. I am ever about community in this fragmentary country and fragmentary lifestyle.
Backyard movie nights are definitely happening again, though perhaps when it's warmer and without the fuss and bother of potlucking.
I'm glad I don't have to throw any more parties for myself ever again. This one was good and fun, but it was also a lot of work. Let's just be friends in small groups, okay?
