Focus....focus...
Jan. 17th, 2008 11:02 amI'm really hoping that my ability to focus will improve after this weekend's bike ride is over. So distracting!
Also, I'd forgotten what it was like to give my students mini-lectures in my head. Also distracting. This morning, while riding my bike, I momentarily forgot that I was riding my bike because I got caught up in an imaginary statistical discussion. Fortunately, the rest of my body remembered what I was up to and when I emerged from my reverie I was still pleasantly riding. If my students only knew how much time I spend thinking about them, perhaps they'd be more appreciative. Perhaps they already are appreciative, though. I'm going to give myself a complex over teaching honors students this semester because I have no idea where to set the bar for them, and I have to work a bit harder to figure out how to make the labs more engaging and challenging. I'm a firm believer that my goal is to push all of my students to expand their thinking, no matter what their starting point is.
