Understanding Why
Jan. 4th, 2008 11:50 amI'm trying to determine why I'm so obsessed with Seattle. A large part of it has to do with human interactions, which can be appreciated by reading the I Saw U section of The Stranger--when forced to be witty in a constrained number of words, Seattleites step up to the challenge. They exchange flirtatious glances at distinctive hangouts and have amusing conversations and still manage to not ask for each others' phone numbers. Or there are things like this:
REALLY, REALLY, REALLY GOOD LOOKING
I was walking down Broadway when I noticed you in the window at Castle. After realizing it was my own reflection I was overcome by narcisism [sic]. No wonder everyone's always staring at me. When: Friday, December 21, 2007. Where: Capitol Hill. You: Man. Me: Man. #908275
But this is just one dumb example of the grander patchwork, a mosaic of interactions. People are genuinely friendly here and say hello in a non-creepy way (most of the time). And they're passive-aggressive, like me, so I fit in nicely.
