Overdoing it: Day 34
Sep. 3rd, 2007 09:10 amYesterday morning I gathered supplies together and then drove down to Tucson to meet with a professor in need of leafcutter fungus. In exchange, she gave me some leafcutter queens to start new colonies. I hung around Tucson for a while afterwards in a nice coffeeshop (Raging Sage; thanks, D) because I had hoped to meet up with an aunt and uncle who live there but were traveling until mid-afternoon, but finally I reluctantly decided that it was too hot to leave ants in the car and so I headed back to Phoenix. People won't look at you funny if you bring your dog in from the car, but a bulky tray full of ants is more difficult to explain.
Visits to Tucson are always a touch nerve-wracking for me. I've had to spend a lot of time driving around the city by myself and on more than one occasion have had vehicle troubles or close calls. Never anywhere else, only in Tucson. This time the only eventful moment was trying to park and unpark in the coffeeshop's small lot--giant pickup trucks with large turning radii just don't seem to fit well in small spots and I haven't quite learned how to search for appropriate spaces to fit the vehicle. Getting out of the lot required a 3,826-point turn, and I'm sure the clientele who seemed to frequent the joint were appreciative of the obnoxious giant vehicle. If I ever own a car, it will be at the opposite size extreme--tiny. Perhaps sometime I should throw my bicycle in the back of the truck and use it to get around Tucson instead. It would do wonders for my stress level. I'd love to explore the city a bit more. The Tucson Weekly listed all sorts of interesting events and I wish I'd remembered to look up the location of the Tucson bike co-op.
Anyway. By the time I finally got home, the events of the weekend had caught up with me. I'd like to pretend I'm better again, but judging by how crappy I felt last night, I'm not and I still need to take it easy. I'm also a bit worried that I'm getting a cold on top of teh mono, but I can't quite tell at this point if it's two things or just the same one thing.
Well. Speaking of things, there are things that need doing today, and so I should go forth and do them. Bleh.
