Today was fantastic. It started off on a poor foot, however. I woke up, as usual, and putzed around for a while, and then as I was reading, Kimberly (aka Inaction Cat) and Emma (aka Action Cat) had an altercation. Since Action Cat is roughly one third the size of Inaction Cat, she was doomed from the beginning, and although she's prone to hissing, it's mostly a proactive defensive gesture on her part. I guess it works better for the United States than it does for cats, because it did not dissuade Inaction Cat one bit. Eventually, I screamed at Inaction Cat and managed to scoop up Action Cat and hide her in my room with the door closed. Action Cat's okay with this arrangement, for now. Usually, however, she prefers to be a free spirit and will meow pitifully and incessantly if she knows she's being unjustly locked up. So we'll see how this whole enchilada progresses.

Meanwhile. Well, AKW called me in the middle of the day and said she had a press screening to attend in the U District at the Grand Illusion and would I like to meet for coffee afterwords, so I convinced her to let me go along (being the culture-starved Arizonan that I have become). Since it was a press screening, I shan't reveal any details about the film. I'm sure something will appear in the stranger about it, so you can read about it there, eventually. All I will say is, the moral of the film is: don't get involved in finance.

After the film, we had the aforementioned coffee, which was fun. The benefits and privileges of best friends include the right to talk about whatever's on your mind for however long the subject holds your attention. It seems to me that this non-sequitur conversation style is disorienting for many, but eventually themes emerge, and I savor conversations where big-money words (worth at least a Sacajawea dollar) are woven in, almost, but not quite, without deliberation. The English Language was meant to be savored, and the only real way to savor it is to explore its words extensively.

Then we walked up to Whole Foods, in pursuit of elements of a Christmas present in progress, and I was reminded of how much Seattleites value their food. The Whole Foods in Tempe still borders on the extravagant, but visiting the Whole Foods in Seattle was like visiting a Museum for Gormands. Many of the businesses in Seattle have sprung up to cater to the Microsoft millionaires, resulting in atrocities like Whole Foods. But at least they had what we needed, and we escaped without too much damage to our wallets.

As they say, the rest of the evening was history--dinner with my parents, a Costa Rica - slash - photogenic kitten slide show for AKW, and that's all she wrote.
