Amarillo, TX

rebeccmeisterI don’t fully trust Amarillo, although I do turn up possibilities when I search for vegan food here (I use that as a litmus test).
Originally, I was going to camp, but the beautiful clouds in New Mexico turned into a pretty massive rainstorm with lightning and thunder. So I punted and got a motel room for the night. The refrigerator and electricity are kind of convenient at least.
It felt like it took forever to escape from Northern Arizona. The last time I drove this route was with S, when we were moving from Arizona to New York. That time we stopped in Payson overnight, and then went up to Las Vegas, New Mexico. Probably the most rundown motel I’ve seen so far in my life. The La Quinta in Amarillo is fine, although I reserve the right to change my mind if the car is messed with overnight.
The only other time I’ve been through Amarillo was driving to Arizona in 2021. This is not my favorite cross country route, but it is direct, I suppose.
I am dictating this post into my phone, and it’s a really weird way of writing.
And with that, sleep. Another big day tomorrow.
