Depending on the age of the older disk, you may be able to put into an external case and plug it into your new computer.
Most likely a lot of this has to do with people being enamoured with the various flavors of "cloud" storage.
It has to do with Fruit Co wanting people to put their files on their cloud™ servers, where they can spy on them.
