According to Emma, summer is here. Yesterday was the first day I observed her lounging in the middle of the hardwood floor. I suppose this means I can finally turn off the cat bed.

The early days of warm weather fill me with languorous despair. From the years in Arizona and Texas I've learned to adjust to the warmth and deal with it, but even at my most heat-tolerant I'm still less heat-tolerant than many other people, including [personal profile] scrottie, as evidenced by hot nights where he can sleep and I overheat and wind up sleep-deprived and rageful. (this threshold has historically been at around 87 degree F nighttime temperatures for me, for reference; I'm not rageful AT anybody, just rageful from overheating).

I spent the better part of today taking apart my laptop to change out the battery. I learned a lot about different types of connectors used in modern computers. This is one of the laptops made by the Fruit Company that has the battery glued-in, so you have to take EVERYTHING out, then apply a solvent, pry out the battery, glue in the new one, and reassemble.

Fixing my crapintosh

I had hoped this would be a story of a miraculous computer victory, but it is not. The prior battery had been at the end of its life, so the main thing lost is the better part of a day and my will to deal with things.

I also tried cooking a fancy crepe recipe this morning, but it did not live up to my expectations.

The crepe has lime zest in it, and contains a lime-yogurt filling along with a raspberry sauce.

But I think I prefer my own crepe batter recipe over this one. I think my crepe recipe makes for a sturdier batter, overall, that is easier to work with and has a nice texture. And I think I prefer a squeeze of fresh lemon juice instead of the lime.

Life will go on. I still have plenty of lemons, after all.

I have also been working on some Adulting. Some time ago, I encountered this set of instructions for how to organize one's paper files. I'd been wanting instructions like this for a while, without realizing it. I just like having stuff organized and put away so I don't have to think about it too much. I've finally managed to initialize the system and backdate it to around 2015; I went through so many moves and changes in that timeframe that it has been challenging to keep things organized.

Tomorrow will be a new day, for new projects. Or at least a day for some vacuuming, laundry, and cricket care.
