Tea notes

Today, I finished off a canister of mediocre herbal tea at work - some sort of purported mint chocolate rooibos concoction. Meh. I don't know if it was just stale or if it was just a bad combination of ingredients, but it was uninspiring. It also could have been the tea bags. Not all places manage to do tea bags correctly. I usually feel the same way about tea bags as I feel about drinking a latte out of a paper cup. Get a proper infuser already.

I'd decided to make myself finish that tea off, though, before moving on to the next thing, just to have it over and done with. Not too long ago, I picked up more of that lovely loose-leaf minty blend from the local cheese shop, but their selection of bulk herbal teas is limited, so it was time to put in an order for some Stash teas. I got myself some rooibos chai and chocolate peppermint, plus a specialty blend they created, the Portland blend. Their chocolate peppermint tea is *almost* as good as the chocolate peppermint tea from Denmark that I will probably never get to have again. I also ordered some of their Double Bergamot Earl Grey and Double Spice Chai for [livejournal.com profile] sytharin, who was excited to learn that it's possible to get bulk tea from Stash if you order online or via catalogue.

Meanwhile, I'm mentally kicking myself for not picking up even more of that manuka tea that [livejournal.com profile] gfrancie pointed out when I was out for a visit in Cornwall. It has a light floral/citrusy scent that is lovely and refreshing.

Clearly it's time to go on a riding tour of Denmark.

Oh yes oh yes. I enjoyed it there. Especially visiting the island of Bornholm. My friend DM and I have fond memories of grand bicycling adventures there!

Me too. Wistful sigh.

I can always send you some if you would like. Easy-peasy.

This...could be dangerous. To be fair, I should find something splendid to send to you from the US of A!

I'm not sure if you have the time to get down there, but if you are craving some authentic Chinese teas of all sorts, there's a place on Castro Street in Mountain View called Mountain View Tea Village (http://www.mvteavillage.com) that is the bomb.

Hmm! I can't say I've ever craved authentic Chinese teas. I think they're the kind of thing that I enjoy on occasion but don't get to the stage of jonesing for. But if I find myself in that neck of the woods I'll take a look!

Where do you buy the Stash teas? Just Amazon, or somewhere special?

Direct from the source! stashtea.com :^)

OMG, loose leaf Stash? HEAVEN!!!!

I know, right? RAC was surprised to learn this, too.

I don't remember how this all got started, but some time ago, maybe in high school? I got my paws on a copy of the Stash Tea catalogue and discovered they sold loose leaf tea, including more flavors than in tea bags.

The Stash Tea obsession actually dates back to coffee hour after church as a kid, when AKW and I enjoyed drinking lots of wintermint tea and reciting the quotations on the backs of the tea packets.

I might have already made an order.....

I will take that, and give you this beauty. I love their teas, and while they are expensive, they're worth the shot.
