Holiday Challenge, Day 5

Well. Yesterday K called me to strategize about the week's Holiday Challenge meters (reminder or notice to those who haven't been following the story: there's a challenge to row 200 k between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, and I'm doing it). You see, we'd both like to get in some water time, even while putting in a lot of quality time on the ergometer (rowing machine; the only meters that count for the Challenge).

We decided that we'd row on Wednesday and Friday, and would avoid overburdening ourselves by stocking up on erg meters this morning. So I rowed a lovely little half-marathon, and then some (22,251 meters, to be precise). I've spent the remainder of the day rather tired, but now I have 61,251 m down, or 138,749 m to go. I'm 30% of the way there!

67km down here! But I'm not rowing (we might get to on Saturday, though).

wow, you're totally going to make it. here in chicago, in snowed two inches, and i feel like stuffing myself with leftovers and hibernating in my cozy apartment. what's that, exams next week? uh oh.

I hope I do make it. I tried to do it 2 years ago, right before leaving for Australia, which would have required rowing a half-marathon every day for 10 days straight. My mind and body gave out after 5 days. I don't remember what my excuse was last year, but I have a feeling it was flimsy.

But as K has put it, when I say I'm determined to do something, I usually follow through.

Good luck studying. I must admit I'm grateful that things are actually wrapping up for me now...aside from the whole research program stuff, that is, which never ends...
