Back to just the bullet points [status, work, food]
Saturday: What did I even do in the middle of the day, after getting back from rowing, coffee, and random boathouse projects? I no longer remember. I do remember I was tired because we covered a lot of distance during practice.
We were going to go see a film about the lighthouses on the Hudson River, but then that got canceled with no warning or explanation. I am so bummed! We then tried to pivot to go and see Art on Lark, but the art was canceled because there were more midday thunderstorms. People out here seem to like to have a good time, except all the good times will be canceled if threatening dark clouds are spotted in the sky.
...to be fair, Thursday's thunderstorms caused a whole lot of tree damage in Albany, so there are good reasons to try and seek shelter during storms.
Still.
So we consoled ourselves with vegan cocktails and sushi at the vegan bar, and then salty vegan sandwiches and fries at the vegan deli. All good. I think I should probably only ever get french fries at vegan restaurants.
And although it was very hot inside the Albany Armory on account of the weather, roller derby was NOT canceled and I am so pleased that not only did I finally make it to a roller derby game, but a friend who is a referee was there and explained the basics to us so I could actually follow what was happening. Unsurprisingly, I am an instant fan.
Sunday: Although I am about to leave for a big cross-country roadtrip, did I let that keep me from Cooking All The Things? No, I did not. Pancakes. Egg-Potato burritos for lunch. Aloo gobi. My friend P's cilantro chutney. Some kind of dal whose name I forget. Spanakopita in both hand pie and deep dish pie formats. Lemon-ricotta cheesecake.
The kitchen got very hot with the oven on, even with the box fan running full tilt in the kitchen window. Someday I will live in a house with non-gas appliances again.
In between cooking episodes, I whipped morerope line. I am getting pretty fast at it, but I'm not sure I'm getting better at it. But I'm basically done because I've made a whole bunch of shorter pieces and I have run out of time.
This morning the plan was to drive to work to pick up ant supplies, but the car battery was dead. I regret that I did not take any action photos of wiring up Princess TinyHouse to give Big Red* (Mazda2) a jump. Only after Big Red started, then I noticed the dome light switch was in a weird position (midway between "on" and "door," or between "door" and "off," one of the two, don't remember which). We are going to test the dome light hypothesis once I get home again, because S was getting really weird voltage readings before the jump. Assuming I make it home from work without further trouble. Yay cars. I should pack along a multimeter.
And with that, I should now run around and get the hatches battened down at work. Oy.
*I have Big Mama the legitimately huge bike trailer and Big Red the wee Mazda2. It does not make any sense, except it does.
