Ups and downs

Sometimes hard to know what to share, where, and when. One of the rowers asked this morning, "How's your dad?" so I had to give the "How's your dad right now?" answer: yesterday morning he fell while going out to get the newspaper. Broken left femur (in my mind I counterbalance that with the time he cracked his right femur after slipping on black ice bike commuting to work).

They had to decide: surgery or no surgery. Either option is high risk. They elected surgery. That was all I knew until checking e-mail this morning. Hard for everyone to wait and not know, at times like this. Sounds like he came out of surgery smoothly, for which we are all grateful.

This is all really hard for my mom, but local people and church community are helping as they can.

From here, there will be some work to sort out how rehab will go, so it may be a little while before he's able to come home again. A complicated case, given the current progression of cancers. Surgery was at UW Med but there will probably be a transfer over to facilities covered by insurance.

Sorry, no comments.
